KCC Live is a community radio station based in Knowsley Community College, broadcasting across Knowsley and surrounding areas such as Liverpool to 10- to 24-year-olds.

History

KCC Live was launched on 1 December 2003 by Hywel Evans as the college radio station for Knowsley Community College. It broadcasted on 1251 Medium Wave, through a web stream, and across the two college campuses.

KCC Live is based in the Roby Campus of Knowsley Community College and between 2003 and 2007 occupied the far ground floor of the Media Block. In 2007 however the station was moved to the opposite side of the building to provide extra space and allow expansion. KCC Live now consists of office/prep space and 3 studios. Studio 1 is used for live broadcasting whilst Studios 2 and 3 are used for Production, Pre-Recording, News, and training.

FM Community Radio

In 2008 KCC Live were successful in a bid for a community radio FM licence from Ofcom. More info can be found on the Ofcom website. KCC Live was allocated the frequency 99.8FM, and now broadcasts across Knowsley and surrounding areas such as Liverpool playing music and content exclusively for 10- to 24-year-olds.

Awards

In 2010, KCC Live were announced as the winner of the prestigious Radio Academy Nations and Regions Award for the North West Branch.

KCC Live were nominated for the Sony Radio Academy Awards 2011 Station of the Year (TSA Under 300,000) and also attended the 2011 Arqiva Awards as a station from an educational establishment.

Daytime Broadcasting

Daytime broadcasting on KCC Live is between 8 am and 7 pm, and consists of live shows coupled with music for a younger generation, from the Indie, RnB, Urban and Electro genres to name a few. Live shows include Breakfast With Carl Burns, Johnny Bee and Gee Gee, Monday - Thursday from 8am; and The Big Live Drive from 3 pm.

Between 2 and 3 pm daily, Specialist Hours are broadcast, featuring music only from a specific 'niche' genre, or music from a variety of highly specialist but related genres. These are:

Overnights are also dedicated to music from specialist genres including Urban, Electro, Rock and Dubstep.

Daytime broadcasting at weekends consists of non-stop music and pre-recorded shows.

Other Broadcasting

Into the night and early hours of the morning, KCC Live plays non-stop music from a variety of different genres popular with the target audience that isn't played during peak times, in a series of pre-recorded shows. These include dance, trance, house, and associated genre mixes from DJs such as Jay Foster, Lloyd Pringle, Stefan Marc, Johnny Bee and more; as well as Urban and Dubstep shows.
